Foong-Ling
June 23, 2007

Back in Malaysia where I grew up, my parents had always brought me to Sunday School since I first started walking. When my family and I migrated to Australia in 1990, I seriously considered changing my Chinese name to a more pronounceable English name.
My parents gave me the name Foong-Ling, which means "filled with the Holy Spirit."

Before I received eternal life, I argued a lot with my parents, I was ungrateful, selfish and preoccupied with outward appearances. Over time, I was searching for something 'more' in life. I knew in my head that God existed but deep down, my heart still felt empty.

I didn't know the real significance of my name until the night of February 6, 1998. On this night, my brother took me to a mass event in Burswood where Franklin, the son of the famous Evangelist Billy Graham would be speaking. For the first time, the words of the message and music cut to the heart and I could sense God working in my soul.

Now that I have eternal life, my perspective of life has really changed. The focus isn't on me, me, me.... but on God and his love for people all over the world. I am now able to see the inner beauty and good in other people no matter what they look like, where they come from or what they do.

I wouldn't dream of changing my name because it reminds me that God is in my heart. I am no longer afraid of dying and I am certain of spending eternity with my loving creator God in heaven.
