My Relationship With Christ

Bill Merritt
March 13, 2009

I was brought up in the church and attended until I was ninteen. After that, until I was in my forties, I thought I didn't need any help from the Lord to make me happy. My problem was, I really had no direction.

I pretty well did whatever made me happy at the time. I felt that I didn't need religion because, as you have heard others say, I was honest, I helped others, and felt I was living a moral life.

Then one Sunday morning, while my wife was in church (she had joined two years earlier) I was sitting on my patio enjoying the sunshine and listening to a music cd, I had a thought (UH OH). I said to myself, something important is missing from my life.I knew what it was of course since I had been raised in the church.

The next week I was in church and a few weeks later I joined and I recommitted my life to Christ. I began taking part in the committees and operations. The more I studied the word of the Lord, the stronger my faith grew.I never had a bright light shine down on me with a booming voice talking to me as Paul did. I have seen the Lord working through other people and often feel him guiding me the direction He wants me to go.

As I said, there were no fireworks that got my attention. The Lord softly and quietly laid his hand on me one Sunday morning and said "It's time to go to work".
